Conversation on Conservation

As a proud member of the Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums (CAZA), the Edmonton Valley Zoo and other partners will focus on Canada’s Arctic in 2010. With Arctic habitats diminishing and becoming more fragile each year, understanding the importance of biodiversity is the first step in protecting it.

Lucy the elephant

Lucy, the 35-year-old Asian elephant at the Valley Zoo has been getting a lot of attention from visitors, media and even Hollywood celebrities. In response, we have created a section of our website with videos and other background information about Lucy. In the future, we hope to feature many of the other exciting animals living at the zoo.

You can help preserve endangered gorilla habitat by recycling your cell phone. The Valley Zoo is working with ECO Cell to turn recycled phones into a conservation project. You can also enter to win a Swarovski crystal gorilla mom and baby with each phone you drop off.
